Short story...

I grew up on the west coast of California, though my family is from Japan. As I was trying to make sense of my interest in art and differences between both of my cultures, I heard about a small craft school on a beautiful island to the east of Sweden. I decided to take a chance and move there to study ceramics. At this school, Capellagården, I lived and worked amongst 40 students who were dedicated to learning ceramics, textiles, carpentry, and gardening. Being with people who had pure interest in their field opened my eyes to the value of hand-craft and the maker. I was also able to confirm my passion for working with clay.

I then decided to continue my studies and took my masters at the University of Gothenburg HDK. Currently, I am continuing my work as a ceramic artist in Gothenburg.

I often write short poems or stories that I like to bring into my work, but also find it meaningful for my pieces to be fully functional. I think there is something special when objects find their way into people’s normal routines, and it is valuable for me to see nuance and poetry in the everyday. My hope is to make things that have a lasting future with all kinds of people.
